obertson, since 1987, has focused his law practice in the areas of labor/employment, civil, corporate and commercial litigation and developed his transactional practice within the corporate, non-profit and entertainment industries in both the boutique law firm and in-house environments.
Robertson also focused his entrepreneurial pursuits and business affairs practice within the entertainment industry. He has represented and managed entertainers/sports' celebrities and various other institutional and individual clients in numerous commercial, corporate and intellectual property transactions, primarily in the areas of music, film, television, book publishing and interactive entertainment. These transactions include drafting and negotiating recording and music publishing, personal management, production, master use and synchronization agreements, label distribution and funding agreements (film and major and independent labels), film financing, joint venture and executive employment agreements, license agreements, etc.
He co-owned and served as General Counsel/President (2001-2004) of Tug McGraw's (Phillies/NY Mets) sports and entertainment management and marketing company (McGraw and Company) which represented various sports, television, and radio personalities. Over the years, he has also owned, represented and managed numerous entertainment businesses including independent record labels. John served as Sr. VP Operations/Legal and Business Affairs to Judgment/RCA Records (formerly Ruffhouse/Columbia Records). He is CEO/founder of Powerhouse Entertainment Group, LLC and owner and Executive Producer of 2005 Grammy Award winning independent record label, Libertad/Universal Records, a multi-media record/music publishing/film company.
Robertson was a two term Governor of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS: The GRAMMYS), and also served as its Secretary-Treasurer of the Executive Committee. Robertson is an Adjunct Professor at Holy Family University College of Business and has served as a guest lecturer, moderator and a panelist at various music conferences (Billboard Music Conference (Miami), Millennium, Dewey Beach, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Boston (NEMO) Music Conferences) and at Lebanon Valley College and Villanova, University of Pennsylvania, Temple and Rutgers Universities' Schools of Law. He is a Member of the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (PVLA) and a professional musician.
